Water Leaks: Why They Matter in Your Home
A house’s water system is very complicated, and as a result it often needs maintenance and repair work. Water heater repairs, for example, are quite common given that some water heaters are prone to damage, flukes, or other problems. In general, water system problems come in all shapes in sizes. Clogged drains, for example, is by far the most common but there is plenty more where that came from. Leaky toilets, faulty washing machines, dripping showerheads, and broke faucets are just some of the numerous problems homeowners have to face quite a bit.
Water usage in a home typically breaks down to this: toilets consume the most water (19%), followed by washing machines (15%), showers (12%), and faucets (11%). Those figures, however, only indicate proper water usage. That is, they don’t take into account how much water they use when they leak. A leaky toilet, for example, can waste up to 200 gallons every day! Throughout the house, water leaks can cause up to 10,000 gallons of water being wasted per house every year. That is roughly equivalent to the amount of water needed to wash 270 loads of laundry.
There are a number of things you can do to prevent leaks and other water issues in your home. You can, for example, install water-efficient fixtures and appliances capable of using 30% less water than normal equipment. You can also help by reducing your time in the shower to five minutes. Be sure to only wash four loads of laundry, and reduce your toilet flushes by 25%. Taking these steps will not only reduce the amount of water you waste, it can also reduce the amount you pay for your water bills by about 10%!
However, if you are truly in need of repair work, plumbing service professionals are the best option. Plumbing services like water heater repair work are difficult, which is exactly why they’re best kept to a professional.
